Tri-County Jail Release Outcomes
Tri-County Regional Jail is the active local jail serving Champaign, Madison, and Union Counties. A person held on a Madison County matter can leave through bond, a court order, time served, sentence completion, or a transfer. Only some of those paths return the person to the community. The release record's type, authority, and destination fields separate a true community release from a change of custodian.
A person sent to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction should appear in ODRC Offender Search after intake and data entry. Someone transferred to another county must be confirmed with that jail. A federal or immigration handoff calls for a separate federal check. Court probation or community control should be verified through the court that imposed it. The name's absence from the regional list proves none of these outcomes by itself.
Tri-County Current Custody Roster
The official Tri-County roster is labeled “Persons Currently In Custody.” It lists the facility code and telephone, displays a last-update timestamp, and states a 30-minute update frequency. Access also requires a captcha and session cookie. An individual record may show booking and case details or a photo, but the public landing page does not offer a release tab, historical archive, or released-person time window.
The official roster view shows the present-tense label and refresh statement that govern how its results should be read.

Note: A 30-minute roster interval does not guarantee that every upstream booking or release action posts within exactly 30 minutes.
Confirm Tri-County Jail Releases
Begin with the full legal name and enough data to avoid a same-name mismatch. Useful points include approximate age or birth date, booking number, booking date, arresting or holding agency, and Madison County case number. Then follow the custody trail instead of repeating the same roster query.
- Check Tri-County's current list and the Madison County Sheriff inmate feed. A match supports current listing, not guilt; no match supports only absence.
- Search Common Pleas for a felony matter or Municipal Court for a misdemeanor or traffic matter. Read the latest signed journal entry.
- Use Ohio VINE to look for a matching participating-agency status or to register for a future custody-change alert.
- If a court entry orders prison conveyance, search ODRC by name or offender number and allow for intake lag.
- Call Tri-County with a narrow status question. Request the actual release event when proof of time, type, or destination is needed.
A two-source match gives the soundest answer. For example, a Tri-County release timestamp and signed bond entry support release on bond. Request Tri-County Release Records
Ask Tri-County for a narrow, existing record tied to one booking. A useful request names the person, approximate admission date, booking number, and Madison County case. It seeks the booking sheet and releasable release portion of the jail-management record, including actual release date and time, release type or destination, releasing authority, and booking photo when those items are maintained.
Ohio Revised Code 149.43 generally provides inspection and copy rights for qualifying public-office records, subject to exemptions. Ask for redaction of any exempt part rather than withholding of the whole responsive record. Medical, security, victim, juvenile, sealed, and certain investigatory material can require protection. No official source reviewed states a flat Tri-County release-record fee, public-counter schedule, or guaranteed turnaround. Ask for an estimate and delivery instructions.

The jail is the proper first custodian for its own release event. Madison Sheriff Records should receive a request only for a Sheriff-held report, not by default for Tri-County jail-management data.
Tri-County Release Court Records
The jail documents physical custody. The court explains the legal order. Madison County Common Pleas handles felony dockets, while Municipal Court handles many misdemeanor and traffic matters that can produce short stays. Search the proper court for signed entries addressing bond, sentencing, jail-time credit, time served, conveyance, community control, dismissal, or termination.
Do not treat a filed motion as a granted request. A judicial-release application does not establish that a judge approved release. Likewise, the date on a signed entry can come before the jail completes discharge. Compare the journal entry with Tri-County's actual timestamp and stated destination. Municipal Court warns that its online information may lag at least 24 hours and that verified information requires a written request or in-person review.
Older matters are often easier to trace through court records than live roster pages. If a docket is absent, consider name format, filing date, old-system limits, or lawful sealing before drawing a conclusion.
Note: A jail release ends physical confinement at Tri-County, but it does not by itself show that the criminal case ended.
Tri-County Replaced Madison Jail
Madison County's old jail closed. Sheriff Court Services now transports prisoners between Madison courts and Tri-County Regional Jail. This creates a local naming trap: a person arrested in Madison County may appear on a regional list beside people held for Champaign and Union Counties. The facility name alone does not tie a booking to Madison County.
Read the arrest or holding agency, charge, and court case. Those fields connect a regional booking to the county that committed the person. The two state prisons in London add another layer. Madison Correctional Institution and London Correctional Institution are ODRC prisons, not overflow units of the regional jail. Their residents may have sentences from any Ohio county.
A release from either state prison remains on the ODRC and Adult Parole Authority path. A Tri-County release stays on the jail, local court, and VINE path unless the record identifies a transfer. Keeping the systems separate prevents a state-prison status from being read as a local-jail release.
Tri-County Releases With ICE Detainers
No official source found that Tri-County Regional Jail is an ICE contract detention site. Immigration tools therefore are not a routine second stop for every missing name. Use this branch only when the jail record, court file, or another credible source identifies an immigration detainer or transfer.
ICE describes a detainer as a request for notice of impending release and up to 48 additional hours so the agency may assume custody. In that circumstance, Tri-County can record a release from its custody even though the person did not enter the community. The destination agency is the crucial release-record field.
ICE's online locator accepts an A-number and country of birth, or exact name and country of birth with an optional birth date. Its stated scope can include people released from ICE custody within 60 days, but entries may lag and not everyone appears. A non-result cannot disprove an immigration handoff.
Note: Use the exact agency wording for a detainer or transfer; never infer immigration custody from a roster removal alone.
Read Tri-County Release Fields
Several dates can coexist. Arrest may precede booking. A court order can precede actual release processing. Jail-time credit affects a sentence but is not the release timestamp. Keep the original label and source with each date rather than collapsing them into one “release date.”

If the person had more than one booking, identify each date separately. When a result conflicts with a court entry or ODRC record, preserve both labels and timestamps, then direct the error question to the office that owns the disputed field.
