Find Madison County Released Inmates

Madison County released inmates can leave one live custody list yet remain in another agency's care. A Madison County released inmate search must therefore match the person to the local jail, an Ohio prison, a court order, or a federal system. To search for Madison County released inmates, begin with the system that last held the person and seek a positive release or transfer event. Madison County released inmates may also have an active court case or post-release supervision after physical custody ends. Careful use of release records, court entries, and corrections status prevents a roster disappearance from being mistaken for proof of community release.

Madison County Release Records

For a short local stay, Madison County uses Tri-County Regional Jail in Mechanicsburg. The regional jail serves Madison, Champaign, and Union Counties. Its public roster is headed “Persons Currently In Custody.” Once a person leaves Tri-County custody, that name will normally fall off the live roster. Yet removal can reflect bond, time served, a court order, a transfer, or another event. The Madison County Sheriff's current-inmate feed has the same present-tense limit. Neither public interface is a released-inmate archive.

A release record answers when physical custody ended or changed and under whose authority. It does not decide the charge. A person may leave on bond while the case is pending, enter community control after sentencing, move to an ODRC prison, or pass to another agency. “Discharge” can also have a narrower legal sense than a walk out of jail. The record must be read with the last signed court entry and, when applicable, the next custodian's status.

Important: Absence from a Madison County current roster is not proof of release. Confirm an actual release event, court order, or receiving-agency record.

Madison County Release Types

Release codes describe distinct outcomes. The destination matters as much as the time. A transfer ends Tri-County's custody but does not place the person back in the community. Bond and recognizance release allow a person to leave while the case proceeds. Time served or sentence complete ends the custodial part identified by the order, though supervision or other obligations may remain.

Release or custody eventWhat it meansBest next record
Bond or recognizancePhysical jail custody ends while the charge may remain pending.Jail release event and signed court bond entry
Time served or sentence completeThe custodial term in the order or calculation has ended.Release timestamp and sentencing entry
Community control or probationA court supervises the person outside jail.Common Pleas or Municipal Court probation record
Parole or post-release controlState prison confinement ended, but ODRC supervision continues.ODRC status, supervision start, and APA office
TransferOne facility's custody ended because another authority took charge.Destination field and receiving-agency record
Dismissal or acquittalThe court, not the jail code, establishes this result.Signed court journal entry

What does “time served” prove? It proves only what the sentencing and release records say. It does not by itself show that every count ended, that the case was sealed, or that all supervision is over.

Note: Escape and death can also remove a name from ordinary lists, but neither should be labeled a routine community release.

Madison County Release Record Fields

A focused Madison County release record ties one booking to one custody change. Ask for the release portion of the jail-management record, not a broad file about the person. Specific identifiers reduce same-name errors and help the custodian locate repeat bookings. Each returned label should be kept in its original form because “release destination,” “release reason,” and “releasing authority” answer different questions.

FieldWhat it shows
Full name and jail identifierThe identity attached to the local custody record.
Booking numberThe unique link to a particular admission.
Admission date and timeWhen the booked custody episode began.
Actual release date and timeWhen Tri-County custody physically ended or changed.
Release code or reasonBond, time served, court order, sentence complete, or another maintained code.
DestinationWhether the person entered the community or moved to another agency.
Court, case, or authorityThe case and order tied to the release action.
Booking photographThe image, if maintained and lawfully releasable, tied to that booking.

Some fields may be blank, not maintained, or lawfully redacted. Medical, security, victim, juvenile, confidential investigatory, and sealed material can fall outside public access. A blank field is not zero. Nor should a destination be expanded into a private street address when the coded agency or release type is enough to confirm the event.

Request Madison County Release Records

Tri-County Regional Jail is the first records contact for its jail-management release event. Madison County Sheriff Records handles Sheriff-held incident or offense reports, not every Tri-County jail record. Under Ohio Revised Code 149.43, a public office must provide prompt inspection and copies within a reasonable period, subject to exemptions. No verified local flat fee, response guarantee, or counter hours were found. Request an estimate and arrange inspection with the custodian.

  1. Identify the full name, approximate admission date, booking number, and Madison County court case if known.
  2. Ask Tri-County for the booking sheet and releasable release record, including actual release time, type, destination agency, and releasing authority if maintained.
  3. State that exempt portions may be redacted while the balance is produced, and ask for the statutory basis of any withheld part.
  4. Ask for an advance copy-cost estimate and an electronic response when the record already exists in that form.
  5. Compare the release event with the signed court journal or receiving-agency status.

Ohio Rules for Madison Releases

Ohio's county-jail and state-prison records follow different rules. ORC 149.43 governs access to qualifying public-office records and permits redaction of exempt parts. ODRC records are treated separately. ORC 5120.21 requires state discharge, transfer, and related facts to be maintained, but it also restricts access to the broad inmate and APA file. The statute still permits disclosure of listed facts such as name, convictions, photograph, supervision status, incarceration history, and disciplinary history.

The official statute page shows why a state-prison request cannot be framed like a Tri-County jail request.

Ohio law governing ODRC discharge records for Madison County released inmates

For state custody, the public ODRC search is often the most practical first source. A request for an entire institutional file may meet the confidentiality rule in ORC 5120.21.

Sealing and expungement under ORC 2953.32 can lawfully change public access. Waiting periods and eligibility depend on the present statute and the legal meaning of final discharge. A missing web case should never be described as proof that no case existed. For a current dispute, obtain the signed order from the right Madison County court.

Madison Release Court Records

Local court interplay is central because Madison County cases are housed at a regional jail. Felony matters belong in the Common Pleas docket. Many misdemeanor and traffic cases that lead to short Tri-County stays belong in Municipal Court. A current roster cannot reveal whether a judge granted bond, imposed time served, ordered community control, dismissed a count, or directed conveyance to ODRC.

The Madison County Common Pleas search accepts party, numeric case number, hearing date, or file date. Party names use the format “last, first,” and case numbers contain numbers only. Its blank search portal displays the fields needed to trace a felony case.

Open the docket and seek a signed journal entry. A motion is only a request. An application for judicial release does not show that release was granted. For Municipal Court, use its separate case search and account for the court's warning that filing and judicial-action posting can lag by at least 24 hours. Verified information requires a written request or in-person review. When the listed visit locations conflict, call the court before traveling.

Note: The order date can precede discharge processing, so pair the signed journal with the jail's actual release timestamp.

Search Madison County Released Inmates

Begin with identity, jurisdiction, and the most recent known custodian. Record the full legal name, approximate age or birth date, booking date, agency, and case number if known. Then follow the branch supported by the case. This method finds a positive event rather than inferring release from a missing name.

  1. Check the Madison Sheriff current-inmate page and Tri-County's current roster. A match means currently listed; no match proves only absence.
  2. Read Common Pleas for felony matters or Municipal Court for misdemeanor and traffic matters. Seek the latest signed custody, bond, sentencing, transfer, or termination entry.
  3. Search Ohio VINE for a matching participating-agency record and custody-change notice.
  4. If prison conveyance is plausible, search ODRC by name or offender number and read the full status and date labels.
  5. Call Tri-County at 937-834-5000 for a narrow status question, then request the release event when documentary proof is needed.
  6. Use BOP only for a federal custody path, and ICE only when an immigration handoff or detainer has a factual basis.

The strongest confirmation uses two sources. A Tri-County release timestamp plus a court bond entry supports bond release. A missing jail name plus an ODRC `INCARCERATED` result instead supports transfer. ODRC `APA SUPERVISION` and a supervision start date support release from state prison into continued state supervision.

Why did a person vanish from the roster? Both Madison public jail views are current-only. Removal can follow release, transfer, a spelling or feed change, or movement to another system, so a second source is essential.

Madison County Recent Release Records

No official Madison County or Tri-County 24-hour, 72-hour, or historical release feed was found. Tri-County advertises a 30-minute refresh, but that statement describes a current-custody roster. The Sheriff feed offers booking names, numbers, agencies, charges, and photos, yet no release date, reason, released flag, or time-window filter. Saved roster comparisons can show removals, not official release events.

For a rolling period, give Tri-County an exact start and end date, time, and time zone. Ask for an existing jail-management release report limited to Madison commitments if that filter exists. Make clear that no new record must be created. Requested fields can include name, booking number, booking and actual release times, release type, destination agency on transfer, court case, and booking photo where maintained and releasable.

VINE may add a custody-change alert, and a court entry can explain the order. Tri-County remains the source for its physical release timestamp. A 30-minute page cadence is not a promise that every upstream release step posts within 30 minutes.

Three Madison Release Systems

The phrase “Madison inmate” can point to three different systems. The former Madison County jail is closed. Sheriff Court Services now transports prisoners between Madison courts and Tri-County Regional Jail. Meanwhile, Madison Correctional Institution and London Correctional Institution are ODRC state prisons located in the county. Their residents may have been sentenced by any Ohio county.

SystemStill in custodyAfter custody ends
Tri-County local jailTri-County and Sheriff current listsJail release event, VINE, and Madison court docket
ODRC state prisonODRC status `INCARCERATED`ODRC released or APA status, dates, and field office
Federal BOPBOP facility locationBOP `Released` or not-in-custody result and release date
ICE civil custodyICE ODLS when within scopeRecent released result within ODLS limits

Facility branding alone is not enough. Agency, charge, court, sentence, and destination identify the proper release path. The fact that an ODRC prison is in London does not make its release a Madison County jail release or mean the person returns to Madison County.

Madison Release Status and Alerts

Post-release supervision also splits by authority. Common Pleas or Municipal Court may order probation or community control. ODRC's Adult Parole Authority supervises parole and post-release control after state confinement. Check the individual ODRC result for the APA office because a Madison commitment does not guarantee a local field office. `APA SUPERVISION` confirms release from prison but not final discharge from ODRC legal custody.

Ohio VINE receives data from participating county jails, ODRC, and youth custody. Search one person, compare the agency and identifiers, then read the exact custody wording. A reported out-of-custody result does not rule out transfer to a new custodian. Notification options may cover release, transfer, escape, return from escape, or death.

The Ohio VINE search page provides the state entry for a Madison County custody check.

When a result is stale or absent, contact Tri-County or ODRC. The supplying agency remains the source of the underlying status.

Madison Releases With ICE Holds

A Tri-County removal may reflect an immigration handoff instead of community release. An ICE detainer is a request for notice of impending release and up to 48 more hours so ICE can assume custody. A release record that names ICE or an immigration detainer should be traced through the receiving system. No evidence was found that Tri-County is an ICE contract detention site, so this path should not be used without a concrete detainer or transfer fact.

The ICE Online Detainee Locator System accepts a nine-digit A-number with country of birth, or exact name and country of birth with an optional birth date. ICE states that its scope can include people released from ICE custody within the last 60 days. Records may lag, not every person appears, and minors cannot be searched. A non-result is not proof that immigration custody never occurred.

For federal criminal custody, use the BOP locator only when the case supports a BOP path. US Marshals detainees may move among contract beds before BOP designation, so the federal court order and holding facility can be more useful than a premature BOP search.

Note: A local facility's “release” to any receiving authority is a custody change until that authority confirms what happened next.

Madison County Release Facilities

Each Madison County facility or locator below has a distinct role. The local release record comes from Tri-County. Sheriff Court Services and Sheriff-held reports can help connect a Madison arrest to that regional custody. State-prison release information remains in ODRC and APA records. BOP and ICE are limited contingency paths.

Choose the branch from the custody record, not from the word “Madison.” That one step prevents a regional-jail departure, a state-prison release, and a federal transfer from being merged into the same history.
